Today our staff came across a new Android base game console called the ZRRO, which is seeking funding on Kickstarter. The company is called ZRRO Ltd. and the ZRRO team is seeking $100,000 with 36 days to go before the campaign officially end. This sleek and impressive device is a standalone Android-based console that connects to any TV to make it smart. ZRRO comes with an amazing hover and touch controller powered by ZRRO’s zTouch™ technology. The specifications are as equally impressive for an Android powered game system running Android Kitkat 4.4. The unit will ship with a quad core 2.0 GHz processor, 2GB DDR3 RAM, with video output support for 4K, and finally, 16 GB internal storage. Here are few more cool points from the ZRRO Kickstarter page.

Kickstarter Page:

The ZRRO Pad tracks and mirrors your fingers’ 3D position onto your TV:

  • Hovering enables you to target your finger to the right place while keeping your eyes on the TV
  • Touching is used to select, as on any touch screen
  • Pinch, Swipe, Drag and all other touch gestures are supported
  • An embedded accelerometer and vibration feedback complete the gaming experience

Well, they do work – but only for games and apps that were developed specifically for them. Nowadays most content is designed for touchscreen devices.

ZRRO took a different approach- instead of to trying to convince developers to customize content for old fashioned controllers; they developed the first controller that enables users to play all touch games and apps as they are, without any modification. The company project that gamers have complete access to the Google Play store with a simple “touch” and play gamers get access to over 1,000,000 Android games and apps on your TV as if it were a huge tablet. That my friends is some serious value, with a price of $149 for early bird unit orders. Based on some of the older Android systems in the past, it seem that the ZRRO really has a unique feel to it with  next generation technology in the zTouch. The zTouch really brings another level of gaming options beyond other limited powered Android consoles.

My question is why? After several failed game consoles funded by Kickstarter what is the hook to draw me in here? A casual gamer isn’t going to buy this, a hardcore gamer is going to have a more powerful rig, and a console gamer will have the Xbox One or PS4. So what is the point?

All great points. From my view, being a tech geek, I really like the zTouch technology. Again, you make great points!
