It seems a new mobile powered driven device is in the works from a Japanese company called Cocoa Motors. The company is working on a new device called the WalkCar which is a skateboard-like device that has Segway-like attributes. The WalkCar is definitely a neat device with the ability to carry an individual of to 265 pounds and go up to 6.2mph/h for distances up to 7.4 miles. The device was recently demonstrated for Reuters. Kuniako Saito and his team at Cocoa Motors recently demonstrated lithium battery-powered transporter for the  Reuters reporters. The device is compact and resembles a skateboard.

“I thought, ‘what if we could just carry our transportation in our bags, wouldn’t that mean we’d always have our transportation with us to ride on?’ and my friend asked me to make one, since I was doing my masters in engineering specifically on electric car motor control systems,” Cocoa Motors’ Kuniako Saito told Reuters. The WalkCar is made of aluminum and weighs between 4.4 pounds and 6.6 pounds.

The WalkCar requires just three hours to reach a full charge and will cost around $800 on Kickstarter when it launches in the coming months, based on the information from Reuters. The WalkCar is expected to ship in spring 2016. I’m not sure if the price will turn people off but the mobile transporter is truly something to keep your eyes on in the near future.
