Can Disney’s Tomorrowland Capture Top Spot At Box Office?

Posted by: on May 23, 2015 | No Comments

This weekend the box office will see the release of Walt Disney’s Tomorrowland. Tomorrowland is based on a Disney futuristic themed land park. The film stars George Clooney and co-written and produced by Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof. The movie opened on Friday May 22, 2015 with $9.7 million. Tomorrowland has some tough competition with critic acclaim Mad Max: Fury Road, Pitch Perfect 2 and the new release Poltergeist. I plan to go see Tomorrowland this Sunday . The trailer sold me on the film but the reviews on Flixster (Rotten Tomatoes) is giving Tomorrowland a 49% with Flixster user score at 63%. I try not to base my movie viewing experience so much on reviews but some of the trusted reviews I seen said the 3rd act is a little shaky. With this script being headed by Lost and Prometheus scribe Damon Lindelof I have a few concerns but I will give it the benefit of the doubt until I see the film. However, with a budget close to $200 million there may be concern for Disney if international tickets box office does not bail out Tomorrowland from out of the red with low a Friday open in the US.
