This week at the box office May 31, 2015 saw the release of Warner Bros. San Andreas starring the charismatic Dewayne “The Rock” Johnson lay the smackdown to the box office with a whopping $53.2 million debut. San Andreas open in across North America in staggering 3,777 theaters with 3,200 of those locations in 3D. Movie analysts had the moving doing an estimated $40 million this weekend. The film opened on Thursday with a respectable $3.1 million and $18.2 million on Friday. The film is also set to be released outside North America in a total of 60 countries this weekend. With a budget of $110 million dollars it’s safe to say that the “Great One”, The Rock has another hit on his hands by taking the number spot this weekend from dazed Tomorrowland. Grabbing the number two spot belonged to Pitch Perfect 2 with a solid $14.8 million. Pitch Perfect 2 remained strong in the second spot for a consecutively weekend in a row. I seen the first Pitch Perfect and thoroughly enjoyed it so I hope when I finally get a chance to see the sequel that same enjoyment will remain. Taking the third spot on TechGeniux box office top ten belongs to Walt Disney’s Tomorrowland with a stable $13.8 million this weekend. Tomorrowland will need one heck of push from the international markets to pull itself from out of the red this year.

Looking at the fourth spot this week belong to possibly the most insane action flick of 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road. This weekend Mad Max took in a decent $13.6 million at the box office and showing no signs of falling off anytime soon with great word of mouth. The film has taken in a total of $102 million in North America with a world total of $235.3 million on a budget of $150 million. Director George Miller has already been given the green light for a sequel titled Mad Max: Wasteland. The number five film on our top ten belongs to Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron with a solid $10.9 million.

The number six slot belongs to new comer Aloha. The film cast include Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, Bill Murray, John Krasinski, Danny McBride, and Alec Baldwin. Aloha was hit by negative reviews with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 17%. The film did a depressing $10 million this weekend at the box office. From the moment I seen the trailer I could tell the film would have trouble. It seem like it was all over the place. I hate that it received such a poor opening because I’m a big Bradley Cooper fan. The number seven spot belongs to Poltergeist with a safe $7.8 million with a total North American gross of $33 million on a $35 million budget. The number eight film on the TechGeniux top ten for this week belongs to Far from the Madding Crowd with a $1.4 million tally this week. Dropping in at our number nine slot is buddy cop comedy Hot Pursuit with a $1.3 million this weekend. And last, 20th Century Fox adventure Home (2015) complete our list top list with a $1.1 million dollars in the bank this weekend. Overall everything remained the same this week only with a few minor shake ups at the box office. San Andreas come in higher than anyone estimated and continuing boosting Rock’s star power up another notch.
