No Invite? Open Sales for the OnePlus One, Forever!

Posted by: on Apr 20, 2015 | No Comments

Have you heard of the OnePlus One phone? No? Well the phone was all the rage last year with its high-end device model but low end price for $299 off contract. The OnePlus Company was founded on December 16 of 2013 by former Oppo vice president Pete Lau. I heard about the phone via text. I had a friend who text me on the unique invite system to grab a OnePlus. It was truly an unorthodox marketing strategy and one that would prove successful. The OnePlus business strategy was based on having a high quality phone that will use low cost affordable pricing model. The phone was invitation only. I personally love seeing a different business model to market products or services  instead of the same old tactics. However, the invite only model did have issues for potential new customers last year. Some people that really wanted to own the phone couldn’t get one. Well today the Chinese manufacturer of OnePlus will celebrate the anniversary of the launch of the OnePlus by dropping the invite system to let anyone purchase the phone. This is not a onetime offer either, this is forever. Open sales for the OnePlus One FOREVER!

“That’s right. In our first big celebration of the One’s successful year, we are opening up sales globally for everyone, every day of the week. We have always wanted to put great products into the hands of more people. And, we now feel confident that we have matured enough to handle the increased complexity that comes along with opening up sales completely”

Based on information from the company’s website, the OnePlus One was designed to be beautiful, timeless and comfortable in the hand. Embracing this design language, the One feature subtle curves, sleek lines and a slightly raised, jet-black display. Even the smallest details belong uniquely to OnePlus, from the custom cut and engineered PCB boards to the specially designed battery and dyed inner casing. Each component is meticulously aligned and adorned with a OnePlus logo for a gorgeous device inside and out. Measuring only 8.9mm thick, the OnePlus One is ergonomic and easy to grip, with a tapered edge of just 4.6mm.

I haven’t personally owned or reviewed a OnePlus One headset but I can say the phone does look awesome and the phone OS is the popular custom ROM CyanogenMod Android mod operating system. The invite system may not be used for the original OnePlus One anymore but its successor, the OnePlus 2 will use the invite system to protect and minimize the risk when it comes to producing new parts and components for a new device. The company OnePlus has shipped 1 million OnePlus One headsets and I’m sure the company is looking to duplicate this output with the new OnePlus 2 when its release in late 2015. Whatever the case, we’ll have our eyes on this market changing phone in 2015!
