Amazon Fire Phone Finally Receives Android KitKat Big Update!

Posted by: on May 8, 2015 | No Comments

Well it’s about time! The Amazon Fire mobile phone operating system finally received Android KitKat big update to version 4.6.1. I’m sure the many people that purchased the fire phone are jumping for joy. I know my daughter was extremely happy with the new update. One of the biggest draw backs for the Fire phone is that it doesn’t support the Google Play store, instead Amazon develop its own app store called the Amazon Appstore. Let me share some brief history on the Fire phone. The Fire phone is a 3D enabled smartphone running Amazon customized Fire OS. The phone was released on June 18, 2014. The phone was Amazon first trek into the smartphone market. The phone was exclusively launched through AT&T.  The new Fire OS was a welcome update for some features that should have been available day one. My daughter was happy. My opinion on the phone is 50/50. I like that Amazon went in another direction to design their custom operating system but the user interface layout is hard to understand at first. My daughter seems to like the phone with all the nice features like 3D photos and graphic animations. The Fire phone was greeted with a lukewarm reception and some felt it was just a gimmick phone with no real value to users. With all that said, I’m glad Amazon decided to continue working on the Fire phone because it demonstrate their vision to make the phone a success. Here is a list of new Fire OS updates below:
