This week May 22, 2015 Disney’s sci-fi adventure Tomorrowland staring George Clooney took the box office top spot with a non-impressive $32 million on a blockbuster budget of $190 million. The film faced extreme challenges after poor reviews from critics. I stand by what I said yesterday, the film has to hit gold in the international box office to recoup its $190 million budget to just break even for Disney. With me playing devil’s advocate, I think the film will do around $10 to $15 million on Monday for a four day Memorial holiday total around $42 to $47 million for the US domestic box office. In other news, Pitch Perfect 2 scored $30 million to take the second spot at the box office this weekend. The citric acclaim Warner Bros. film Mad Max: Fury Road came in third place this weekend with a respectable $23.3 million. As for new releases this week, Poltergeist came in fourth place with a better than expected $23 million tally. Actually this is good for the 2015 Poltergeist remake and reboot of the classic 1982 film. The new Poltergeist film has a deceit budget of $35 million. If the international markets kick in for the new film it could turn a profit within a few days. The fifth spot belongs to Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron with $20 million. The Avengers 2 has a world total of $1,163,425,696.

The remaining box office slots are (6) Hot Pursuit $3.4 million. (7) Far from the Madding Crowd took in $2.2 million. (8) The Furious 7 took in $2.1 million this week at the box office with a world total of $1.4 billion. (9) Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 took in $1.7 million and to finish the list for the top ten this week, 20th Century Fox Home (2015) took in $1.6 million.
