BLOCKS – The World’s First Modular Smartwatch

Posted by: on Oct 14, 2015 | No Comments

Are you ready for a cool new Kickstarter project? Yes, sure you are. Well today BLOCKS Wearable is introducing the BLOCKS watch. What is the BLOCKS watch? The BLOCKS is the world’s first modular smartwatch. The watch face – it’s Core, is a fully functional smartwatch which has all the features you would expect. The most amazing thing about BLOCKS is that the strap is made of several links (modules) each of which have their own functions. You can choose the modules you want to build a smartwatch unique to you.

The BLOCKS Kickstarter pages states:
From smartphones to wearables, current technologies are one-size-fits-all. Though many different sensors can be embedded in a wearable device, space is always the limiting factor. This leads technology companies to select features that are right for “everyone” and forces us to compromise on what we want from our devices.  It’s time that our smartwatches reflect our individuality. BLOCKS allows you to build a smartwatch that suits your lifestyle, with features that are customized to your needs. We’re done with compromise. We’re over one-size-fits-all. We want you to have the power to build a device that’s truly yours. With BLOCKS that’s easy. Just choose the modules you want and connect them together in seconds.”
Here are a few tech features for the BLOCKS Core:
• Color touchscreen display
• Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
• A battery that should last 1.5 days
• Sensors for activity tracking
• Haptic feedback
• Voice control

This is truly a cool idea. The BLOCKS modular watch will support both Android and Apple smartphones. The project Kickstarter goal was to raise to $250,000 but it smashed that record in a few hours with a whopping $302,058 and counting. The standard pledge for a BLOCKS watch cost $195. With 37 days to go and 1.086 people on board to get this watch it seem it could see release in May 2016. What do you think of the BLOCKS smartwatch? Share your thoughts in the comments.
